Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026 · NotebookTools extension version 0.2.8
NotebookTools is an independent Chrome extension that helps you import content into your Google NotebookLM account — including YouTube videos, X (Twitter) posts and articles, webpage URLs, and text you highlight on the web. This policy explains what data the extension handles and what we do not collect.
Summary
- No NotebookTools backend server.
- No sale of your personal data.
- Imports happen only when you click import or use the right-click menu.
- Data is sent from your browser to NotebookLM using your existing Google sign-in.
What we collect
NotebookTools does not operate a backend server and does not collect analytics on our own infrastructure.
- The extension reads page content only when you choose to import (for example, a YouTube URL, X post text, webpage URL, or text you highlighted).
- The extension stores lightweight preferences locally in Chrome on your device (for example, whether the welcome page was shown and your last-selected notebook).
- Your notebook list is fetched from NotebookLM using your existing signed-in Google session in the browser.
What we send
When you click import, the extension sends the relevant source data to NotebookLM through Google's NotebookLM web APIs, using the same browser session you already use at notebooklm.google.com. Depending on what you import, this may include:
- YouTube video URLs (from watch pages you are viewing)
- Webpage URLs (from the tab you chose to import)
- Text extracted from X posts or articles (only when you click import on that post)
- Text you selected on a webpage (via right-click → Add to NotebookLM)
What we do not do
- We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising or unrelated purposes.
- We do not receive your Google password.
- We do not upload content unless you explicitly trigger an import.
- We do not log your browsing history.
- We do not track clicks, scroll position, or keystrokes.
- We do not use remote code — all extension code is included in the package you install from the Chrome Web Store.
Chrome Web Store disclosures
For transparency on the Chrome Web Store, NotebookTools may process website content only when you initiate an import (URLs, selected text, or visible post/article text on X). We do not collect personally identifiable information, health, financial, authentication, communication, location, web history, or general user-activity data on NotebookTools servers.
Third-party services
YouTube, X (Twitter), and NotebookLM are operated by their respective providers. Your use of those services is subject to their terms and privacy policies. NotebookTools is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google, YouTube, X, or NotebookLM.
Children
NotebookTools is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
